Fire Station First Responders,

Spring is officially upon us, and so is dig season! In support of keeping communities safe from digging accidents we’d like to remind your community members to call Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc. at “811” before any digging project that is large or small.

One free call to 8-1-1 at least three business days prior to digging starts the process of having the underground utility lines marked at any excavation site. By promoting the 8-1-1 number you can help reduce the chances of homeowners not knowing they were supposed to call, and it may stop a digger from unintentionally striking a utility line such as gas, electric, communications, water or sewer.

PLUS if you simply post a brief reminder to call 8-1-1 on the marquee in front of your fire station
during dig season—any time in April through August—you may be eligible to receive a $500
donation for your firehouse. Random selection for donation on September 5. Here are a few
examples to consider:
• Know what’s below. Call 811 before you dig.
• Call 811 before you .dig.
• Call 811 before digging or you may be calling 911
• Call 811 before digging. It’s the law.

Photos of signs with your safety message will be used in our social media communications. You may send photos to contact@pa1call.org along with the location of your marquee. For a quick response to questions, contact us on Facebook, Twitter or send an email.
