Malvern Preparatory School FDNY-NFEC Scholarship Chapel Service
Since 2002, I have conducted an annual Chapel service at the Malvern Preparatory School to memorialize the 343 heroes of FDNY on 9-11.  This is an open invitation to all Chester County fire stations to attend this memorial ceremony with apparatus and in dress uniform if possible. This year's service will take place on Monday, September 8, at 8:20 AM.

In 2002 I worked with my fire company, the Norriton Fire Company of East Norriton, PA, to establish a scholarship fund at the Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx for most needy sons of firefighters killed on 9-11.  Every year I present a check for $10000 to Fordham Prep at this service to continue the scholarship program.  Currently, we have four students "in the pipeline" at Fordham: two will graduate in 2009 and one in each of the following two years.  Our first recipient graduated in 2007.

After a brief reflection and scripture reading with prayer, we will have a guest speaker.   This year the speaker will be a trauma surgeon from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania; the surgeon spent a week at Ground Zero tending to the survivors and rescuers.

This is an opportunity to remember our exemplary brothers in the fire service and to receive a 'thank you' from the communities you serve.   Please plan to attend.

If you have any questions, please contact me by email at
jjoechsle@msn.com or leave a message at Malvern Prep (484-595-1100).   Those attending may partake of a Continental breakfast beginning at 7:30 AM.   Please let me know the number of personnel you plan to bring so I can make adequate preparations.
