DESCRIPTION: With the constant reduction in volunteers in today’s public safety agencies, it is important to understand how to recruit and retain these valuable resources. This session will help to understand how to find volunteers, understand how to keep your people, understand what motivates them to stay, and understand the impact of leadership. This session offers a review of understanding how to find volunteers, understanding how to keep your people, understanding what motivates them to stay, and understanding the impact of leadership and then covers a number of successful recruitment and retention case studies.

SPEAKER: William F. Jenaway, Ph.D, CFPS, CFO, CTO, FIFireE

Bill Jenaway is Vice President of VFIS responsible for their Education, Training, and Consulting Services. He has served as Fire Chief in both Eastern PA and Western PA and has almost a half‐century of fire/EMS leadership experience. Bill is the program manager for the Fireman’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania’s Recruitment and Retention SAFER Grant and his VFIS team was the author of the USFA manual on Recruiting and Retaining Volunteer Emergency Service Personnel.
